DA GEFAHR!

FUNDUS THEATER / Forschungstheater

50 Dangerous Things (you should let your children do)

Anyone who’s never got superglue on their fingers, licked a battery or taken refuge from a hail shower under a soup tureen has not only missed out on something, they might never have really lived. In order to find our way in the world we have to dare to do things, to try them out, fail and then try again. And sometimes we have to look danger straight in the eye. Because we will never be able to make good decisions without experience.
‘DA GEFAHR!’ by FUNDUS THEATER from Hamburg invites both children and adults to confront danger. What does fear do to us? How do we assess risk? What will we join in with – and what not? Brave members of the audience will recognize the dangers and yet still play a part.
FUNDUS THEATER, under the direction of theatermaker and scholar Sibylle Peters, has been conducting scenic research with children and young people for over fifteen years. In this time the group has established its own unmistakable approach and formal language for seeking and finding the world together.
Inspired by the book ‘50 Dangerous Things (you should let your children do)’, ‘DA GEFAHR!’ marks out an interactive playing field in which Live Art, playful experimentation and philosophical discussions with children enhance each other. How much air do you have to pump into a rubber rabbit before you can explain the theater to it? And what do artists do with their fear? Art becomes a space in which to act out and test life and to ask without a trace of embarrassment what is actually allowed. Authenticity there! Artistic freedom there! No boundaries there! Danger there!
