Our Position Vanishes
Phil Collins with Daniela Kinateder & students of KHM Köln and the 5th Riwaq Biennale Ramallah
A vintage 1960s bus and an everyday municipal bus become a stage for encounters of artists, theorists, performers, musicians and audience. “Our Position Vanishes” is a collaborative project by the seminar group of visual artist and film maker Phil Collins at KHM Cologne, and Nadi, the educational program of the 5th Riwaq Biennial in Ramallah. The simple means of transport between the cities of Düsseldorf, Cologne and Mülheim an der Ruhr become spaces of social, political and artistic experiences. Homemade soundtracks, panoramic pillow fights, depressed GPSs, reusable sick bags, heated discussions, inappropriate flirting, indiscreet dozing, insubstantial comfort slippers, and the Ruhrgebiet’s unforgettable Autobahn vistas: The anonymity of motorways dissolves into charged landscapes narrated by the participants and passengers on board. “Our Position Vanishes” follows the rhythms of cat’s eyes, petrol stations, truck stops, bus shelters, picnic turnoffs, discarded food containers, sun-bleached roadkill, wind turbines, sunsets, and street lamps to amplify the nowhere in inbetween places. Breathe in exhaust fumes and gain new eyes with which to view the city. Bring your own sandwiches, beer will be provided.
Bus departures:
For artistic reasons, theoreticians Gerald Raunig, Boris Buden & Oliver Marchart won’t accompany the bus rides from Cologne as was announced. Instead they will join the rides from Düsseldorf on the same day. All buses will still leave at the announced time and end on time for the shows in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
