Orpheus in der Oberwelt – Eine Schlepperoper

andcompany&Co.

Europe is putting up the barriers. In the south east, the river Evros forms part of its border. Orpheus, the unfortunate human trafficker’s head once flowed down it, singing loudly, after taking a journey to the land of the dead. The theater collective andcompany&Co. creates a dense score combining both discursive andcompany &Co. and documentary texts with elements of the Orpheus operas by Monteverdi and Gluck. Listeners are taken on a journey through the history of migration and right into the center of the so-called refugee crisis. This ‘Smuggler’s Opera’ was the winner of the Prix Europa for Best European Radio Drama.
