Alles

Showcase Beat Le Mot (DE/HR/PL)

How to make gold out of shit. How to breathe life into a lump of clay. How to build a perpetual motion machine. Of course, these three so far unresolved questions of humanity will be explained along the way in “Alles” (“Everything”). Accompanied by the clattering of wooden eternity machines, Maori eurythmists, magicians, filibusterers, soup cooks, golems, and homunculi argue over the most beautiful and preposterous detours to the solution. And they shine overhead projectors onto the audience, moons made of glass cleaner and fluorescent sea anemones with the phantom stroboscope, with disco balls, lasers, mirrors, and the golden pot. The light shines all the way to Atlantis, where we meet Anselmus, the Archivarius Lindhorst, Pinocchio, Serpentina, the Schwendimann, the Seraphim, William Blake, and everybody and everything. In Atlantis the surfaces have all disappeared and we see things as they really are. Infinite.

In “Alles,” Showcase Beat Le Mot sounds out the possibilities and boundaries of the space of the theater once again. Almost detached in their laconic humor, they accept their new role as the old masters of the Gießen School. And we see behind the curtain, become part of the theatrical machinery, get taken along on a journey into a cabinet of wonders, pleasantly entertained, supplied with drinks, initiated into the fundamental terms of alchemy, and leave the theater enlightened. For “Alles” is more than the sum of its parts: bleakly melancholic, cheerfully ambiguous, delicately rhythmic, and serial, “Alles” tells stories of German Romanticism and the Baroque without any through-line.
