Entropisches Institut Mülheim

deufert&plischke (DE)

Coproduction Mülheim Version

For more than ten years, Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke have been testing out the boundaries of the theatrical by choreographic means, and inventing transdisciplinary theater spaces to which we are invited, not only as spectators, but as self-determined participants. What theater is gets determined in collective action.
As the artistwin deufert&plischke, they are virtuosic researchers in the folios of cultural history. Their theater is never just a site of performance, but always a site of emergence, in which one can encounter oneself, and that changes and develops. The “Entropic Institute” is their most radical suggestion to date: exhibition and performance in which mythology and choreography cross.

While an institute seems to provide a certain order and orderliness, entropy in chemistry is the unit for measuring disorder. Between these two poles, the project moves with its dramaturgy of re-formulating. An institute with open borders, permanent movement. An active theater, not theatrical activism. For deufert&plischke, art is not a lonely activity, but is continual work in the community of strangers.

The “Entropic Institute Mülheim“ is opening its spaces for three days. Each time, the artists and visitors will newly narrate, arrange, and invent the exhibition objects, choreographies, findings, notes, and stories. Every day the visitor can choose from a variety of offerings, finding his or her own way through the institute and leaving traces.
